Ask These Questions of Your Home Remodeling Contractor Before Signing

A good product only performs well when the installation is done right and done well.  That’s the same with things like appliances, car parts, and more.  And it’s especially important for home improvement and remodeling.  If you’re planning a project this year, asking a number of questions of potential contractors should help you avoid problems.  So before you sign that contract and hand over the deposit money, get answers to these questions first.

Is Your Work Guaranteed?

Working with someone who can guarantee their work is generally an assurance of high quality services. They can provide this type of work because they obligate themselves to come back and fix something if it was not done right the first time.  The reason they can make these kind of guarantees is that they strive to get it done properly so they don’t have to come back.  Hiring someone who does not offer a guarantee may lead to multiple mistakes.

Do You Have Experience Installing This Product?

You want someone that has a vast amount of knowledge in the work that you want them to do. This way, you can feel more confident when the time comes to hire them. You want someone that knows what they’re doing and can prove it.  Find out about past projects and check into their experience.

Do You Have References I Can Contact?

You don’t want to be sold just on their personality alone when you talk with them. Make sure to ask them for their references from other jobs that they’ve done in the past. And don’t just rely on the list as your assurance.  Contact the individuals on the reference list, and if possible, check out the work in person.

Will You Put Everything in Writing?

Don’t rely on verbal assurances or commitments.  Even if they told you that they would do this or that, if it is not in the contract then they don’t have to do it. If a detail is important to you, then it should be in the contract. That includes specifics on the products to be used.  You might have paid them to do a particular type of job, but if the contract doesn’t specify something, they are not obligated to do it.

Read the contract entirely before signing. Make sure the right amount, as well as work to be performed, is listed. You want to protect yourself when working with someone and the contract can provide you with a way to do so.
