The Benefits of Fiber Cement (Composite) or Engineered Wood Siding

Choosing the right siding to put on your home here in Minnesota can be a difficult decision, and it’s something that you really need to stop and think about.  As a licensed siding installation contractor here in the Minneapolis metro area, we’d like to help you evaluate your options.

You have a number of different siding products to choose from.  The final selection that you make will determine whether you have adequate protection for your home or not.

Vinyl siding is one of the most popular options on the market today, but many people are starting to realize the benefits of having composite siding such as fiber cement or engineered wood put on their homes instead.

These siding products come with extended warranties, they don’t require much maintenance, and they have a classy look that outshines most vinyl.

Long-Term Warranty Protection

Products like James Hardie® composite siding or LP® SmartSide® engineered wood are made to last, which is why manufacturers are willing to put a long-term warranty on the product. Not only does this siding come with warranties around 20 or 30 years, but most of the time that warranty will transfer from one homeowner to the next.

That’s highly beneficial if you plan to sell your house in the future, and it could help win over some prospective buyers.

Minimal Maintenance

Maintaining your siding can be a lot of work or very little at all.  It depends on the siding you choose. Take real wood clapboard siding for instance. Every five to ten years it must be stripped down and repainted or stained to keep it looking fresh and to make it last as long as possible.

That’s a tremendous job to complete, and it’s not something that many people want to take the time to do themselves.  And having it done means an extra expense.

Prefinished composite siding like Hardie®  fiber cement or LP®  SmartSide®  engineered wood doesn’t require much more than a minimal washing now and then, which makes it very easy and inexpensive to maintain.

Classy Appearance

Finally, you have to consider the look of the siding, and that’s a definite bonus when it comes to composite and engineered wood siding products. They have a real wood appearance but don’t come with the real wood maintenance requirements. That means you can enjoy the upscale look of the siding, without all the painting and other maintenance needs. These siding products are especially good on older or historic homes – such as Victorians – where you want to maintain their original appearance.

If you’re looking for new siding, consider all the above benefits before making your final decision. At Window Outfitters, we offer both types of siding, and you can choose from a variety of looks and types to add to your home and get the same general benefits.  If you’d like a free estimate to have either type of siding installed on your home, please give us a call for a no-obligation estimate. We are a licensed Minnesota home remodeling contractor, and we install a variety of siding products in the greater Minneapolis metro area.
