What Is the Importance of Maintaining Your Window Screens?

If you have screens on your windows and/or doors, when was the last time you paid any attention to them?

Window and storm door screens might not seem like much, but they do have a purpose for your home. These are the barrier that is keeping bugs and other wildlife from coming into the home, while still allowing that crisp, clean air to enter. Screens also keep rodents from chewing holes in the frames, which can cause drafts.

A window or screen stops many pests from entering into your home through the door when you just want a little sunshine to enter. Screens are really important, but these bugs and pests are not the only reason you should keep the screens throughout your home in the best shape possible.

For Curb Appeal

The first thing a real estate agent is going to recommend when it comes time to sell your home is replacing all of the screens throughout the home. This is because when the screens are damaged or dirty, this looks bad when trying to sell the home. If the owners didn’t take care of the screens, what else haven’t they taken care of. Good, clean, well kept screens are a good impression.

Keep Your Window Panes Clean

Clean windows are a great thing to have and when you have screens that are just as clean, it helps keep your glass cleaner. The exterior window panes will not have to be cleaned all too often if the screens are there to deflect debris. With the rain, the water dripping down rinses them off.

Reduce Heat Transfer

Some window screens are made of a special materials (called ‘solar mesh’) that can reduce heat transfer. Of course, the coating on the windows is going to help with this, but these screens provide that extra layer of protection that can help.

Water Damage

If you’ve ever dealt with water damage, then you know how expensive and painful it can be. When the screens are working correctly, this stops water from pooling up. This also reduces the chances of having mold build up in the same areas. A great quality screen can resist water and mold.

Maintaining those screens is a good way to go when it comes to protecting your home. Here are additional tips that you can keep in mind when it comes to protecting your home year-round.
