If you’re a Minnesota homeowner who is trying to save money on your energy costs, it just makes sense to look for this blue and white logo, the Energy Star seal. Chances are you’ve got many items in your home that have it – like your furnace or water heater. Most of the replacement windows and doors we install carry this designation. In fact, one of our door manufacturers – ProVia – has been named an Energy Star Partner of the Year for multiple years.
Why is this blue graphic so important? It’s your assurance that the product meets the government’s standards to qualify as an energy-efficient item.
You might notice we mention Energy Star frequently on our website when we’re describing the various windows, entry doors, and patio doors we install. First of all, what is Energy Star? It’s a program launched by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1992 as a resource for unbiased and reliable information for businesses and consumers to use when selecting products that either use energy or affect its consumption in a home or other building. (Click here to find our more about this program.)
The EPA has worked in conjunction with the window and door industry to establish independent testing, ratings, and criteria for buyers to use when evaluating the energy efficiency of a product. And when you’re buying windows, how energy efficient a window is should be extremely important, since most heat loss in a home is through window openings, followed closely by doors.
