Choosing the Right Minnesota Siding for Your Home and Your Pocket

If it has been a while since you replaced the siding on your home, then it might be time to think about having new siding installed.  After your roof, your siding provides the most protection for your home, in addition to making it look good.  But old siding may not be doing either of those things very well.  As a licensed Minnesota siding contractor serving the greater Minneapolis metro area, we install a number of different siding products, so you have a number of options.

How do you know which siding is best for your home? There are several things to consider, including your personal taste, the style of your home, the amount of money you want to invest, and how long you plan to stay in your home.

Here are some tips for choosing the right siding for your home, while also making sure that it is the most ideal budget-friendly choice based on your budget.

Vinyl Siding: Economical, Versatile and Almost Maintenance-Free.

If cost is at the top of your list, vinyl siding may be your answer.  In terms of quality siding products, it’s the most economical, versatile option. It comes in a variety of styles and quite a few colors, so you can mix and match and make it your home look appealing.

The vinyl siding we install – while not as durable as some other more expensive options – does a great job at standing up to Minnesota weather. The only maintenance it requires is periodic cleaning. And if you’re not intending to stay in your home indefinitely, this might be the right choice for you.

Fiber Cement Siding: Stylish, Versatile, Extremely Durable

If you want to really boost your curb appeal and put something on your home that is going to last for years, then James Hardie fiber cement siding is the option to go with.  This eco-friendly siding product has been engineered for our climate, so there’s no issue with our weather. Plus if you opt for their ColorPlus Technology™ finish, paint jobs are a thing of the past.  The warranty that comes with this prefinished siding means it will look great for years to come.

And because James Hardie fiber cement siding is highly resistant to combustion, exterior fire threats aren’t an issue either. This siding is also a very low-maintenance product. It does cost more up front to install than vinyl siding, but you can expect it to last longer. So if you’re planning on staying in your home for awhile, this might be the most cost-effective option.

Wood: For the Classic Look and Appeal

We realize that many homeowners still prefer the traditional appearance of genuine wood siding, so we have some alternatives to offer. We don’t recommend wood siding  because of the issues with moisture, rot, and frequent maintenance needs, but we have three siding products that closely replicate real wood siding.

In addition to our Craneboard® insulated vinyl siding and James Hardie siding in wood looks, we also install LP SmartSide® engineered wood siding that has the appearance of real wood but not all the drawbacks and maintenance needs.
