More Factors to Help Minnesota Homeowners Choose New Windows

In our earlier post we discussed the first two things you need to take into account when shopping for new windows.  Here in the Minneapolis area we’re one of the leading replacement window companies, and we’re committed to helping our clients choose the very best windows possible.

Consider These Elements When Buying New Replacement Windows

Evaluate the Window Appearance

Consider the style and look of the windows that you want, and then make sure that the supplier you plan on working with actually has that type of window. When you know the exact style name you can quickly determine if a company has it or not.  And a number of the companies we partner with have custom manufacturing options so you can get exactly what you want, even if it’s not in their list of standard windows.

Compare Quality

Not all windows are made equally and some will last significantly longer than others. That’s why it’s important to think about the quality of the products sold by the window company you are looking at. You probably don’t want to spend a fortune on your windows, but getting the cheapest windows out there will probably leave you with sub-par durability that you really can’t rely on. And in the long run you’ll spend more because you’ll be replacing those inexpensive windows long before a more quality product.  Try to find decent quality windows at a price that you can afford.

Read the Reviews

Many customers leave reviews for window companies online after having them put in their homes. Take a look at some of these reviews and use that information to help you pick out the options that make the most sense for you.

You should also check out the reviews for the window installation contractor you’re thinking of working with.  Try to avoid the companies that have an excessive number of bad reviews.  And if some of the reviews you’re read have you considered about the windows you were thinking of, talk to us – we can help you make an informed decision.  Remember, sometimes reviews can be a little skewed, and anonymous reviews may not tell the whole story.

Check Out How Well the Windows Perform

Windows should operate smoothly and offer the desired level of insulation. By reading reviews for specific windows you can find out how easy they are to use, and by looking at the specifications for the windows you can figure out which are going to offer you enough insulation and which simply aren’t good enough.  And whenever possible, try to see the windows you’re considering in person.  Colorful brochures can give you attractive pictures, but actually handling a window can tell you a lot more.  That’s one of the reasons we have actual products on display at our window and door showroom in Savage.  We give potential customers an opportunity to see the windows for themselves before they order.

The Window Warranty Is Important

Some companies offer a 10 year warranty on purchase, others a 20 year warranty. The warranty is pretty darned important if you ever need work done in the future, and getting one that includes labor is even more important.  And at Window Outfitters, we stand behind our workmanship, so if there’s ever a problem with the installation when you work with us, we’ll be back to make it right.
