What Is the James Hardie® Siding ColorPlus® Finish?

Did you know that when you order your James Hardie® fiber cement siding you can choose either pre-primed to have it painted on site, or prefinished with their exclusive ColorPlus® finish?

Now, there are advantages to either. With pre-primed siding you can get exactly the color you want.  But then you have the additional time and expense of getting it painted. Perhaps if you want a very particular shade, that might be the way to go.

But if you opt for Hardie’s prefinished siding and trim that’s produced with their patented ColorPlus® baked-on finish, you’ll get so much more than just a nice paint job that’s been done ahead of time.

And it will last about twice as long as a typical house painting.

Think of this finish as more of an investment, for a number of reasons:

• The color isn’t painted in the manufacturing plant – it’s baked on in multiple coats and allowed to cure between each coat.
• This finish has 50% more layers of color than a typical residential paint job
• The ColorPlus® finish has been designed to resist fading from UV rays far better than ordinary paint, and much better than vinyl siding colors
• The finish is warrantied for 15 years – no house painter will give you that kind of guarantee!
• The curing process takes place in a controlled environment, resulting in a stronger bond that would occur with paint
• The baking process coats every edge, which means the color actually ‘wraps around’ each piece of siding – ordinary painting may not provide that kind of coverage
• The finish is extremely resistant to chips and cracks
• Unlike ordinary paint, the finish is uniform; manual painting can’t guarantee completely even thickness of paint, resulting in slight color variations
