Pros and Cons of Minneapolis Exterior Fiberglass Doors

We recently shared an article to help Minneapolis homeowners with choosing the right materials for exterior doors This is an important decision, and we recognize our customers like to have choices. That’s why we offer a number of different manufacturers and materials. In this post we want to discuss fiberglass exterior doors.

About Fiberglass Entry and Patio Doors

Fiberglass is good at looking like wood when used for a door, especially when people want the beauty of wood but the durability of fiberglass. It all comes together nicely with the look and feel of real wood without any of the drawbacks. Fiberglass doors are affordable and easier to care for than real wood.

The Cost: Fiberglass doors are much more affordable than some other options. You can expect to pay between $200 to $900 for a door. The higher price comes from those that are more decorative or custom made. And of course, the more options you choose, the higher the price.

Durability and Maintenance: The durability of an exterior door is something we find is important to the homeowners we work with. When you choose a fiberglass door, you can have it for years without having to do much upkeep other than wiping and scrubbing the outside of the door down to keep it clean.

  • Fiberglass doesn’t warp, scratch or split when exposed to the elements, so repairs shouldn’t be needed.
  • You can treat the door using paint or stain to change the look and color, or you can order the door in a separate color if you want something specific. This way, you don’t have to keep touching up the stain or paint.

Energy Efficiency: Fiberglass doesn’t stretch or shrink, which is something that many homeowners are thankful about, especially in temperatures like ours that change often. It is perfect for any weather areas or climates that can be harsh, whether too hot or too cold. Some other door materials can expand or contract and cause the door to warp or shrink so it won’t fit snugly or else it becomes difficult to open or close. And a door that doesn’t seal lets air in and out, causing heat and cooling loss.

If you are looking to switch out the exterior doors on your home, then fiberglass might be the best door for you to go with. We provide a number of door brands to choose from, such as ProVia, Comfort Line or Marvin. We also install steel doors and other options to choose from if you want to look into a different material for your home.
