Tips for Choosing Your James Hardie® Fiber Cement Siding Color

Once we have people sold on the idea of James Hardie® fiber cement siding for their homes here in the Minneapolis area, the biggest part of the decision has been made.  Yes, you’re getting some of the finest siding available to protect your home from Minnesota weather. But that leaves an important choice – what color siding should you choose?

That’s an important decision.  You can opt to have it painted on site to whatever color you want, but frankly we recommend Hardie’s proprietary ColorPlus® finish. They have so many shades available we’re sure you will find one you love.  Show below is just a small sampling of what’s available. (Photo courtesy of The James Hardie Company.)

ColorPlus® Technology for Siding Color That Lasts

The color of your home defines both the house and who lives inside. It’s a reflection of your personal taste as well as how you want it to appear to those who pass by.  It needs to have the right colors to tell a story on the outside, while also being able to give you an idea of what is on the inside. The right color for siding and trim on a home can raise its perceived value, while the wrong color can make it stand out in the wrong way. Since siding is an expensive procedure to take on, you want to make sure that you choose the right color to begin with.

James Hardie® prefinished fiber cement siding has many beautiful color options with their ColorPlus®Technology that provides the finish and color you can count on. This technology puts an extra 50% percent more paint on than a typical house painter would apply. This helps the color stay in place against the harsh outside weather elements, with no chipping, cracking or peeling.

The finish is smooth as well as consistent and looks great on any home. You do not have to worry about mistakes from painting the siding or having one side of the home having more paint than the other. This is a common problem found with siding that is painted.

Vinyl siding has a problem with fading in the sun over time, while the paint that is baked onto James Hardie® siding continues to stay strong in any outside weather elements. On many siding options, the paint is going to lose its original luster and appeal, making you second guess the choice of siding you went with. Other siding may fade in time, but James Hardie® siding with its exclusive ColorPlus® finish will continue to look great from the first day you get it for years to follow.

Another great benefit of James Hardie® siding is that it comes with a 15-year limited warranty. If there is any sign of wear and tear such as peeling, cracking, fading or chipping, then your warranty may cover the costs associated with repairing this. This warranty does not cover choosing the wrong color, so selecting the right one first and foremost is important.

You might feel a little overwhelmed when it comes to choosing the perfect color with so many options to go with. You will want to get everything out of the color you go with, so watch for our next post with some tips to help you make the best color choice.

Once you’ve chosen the perfect color, our professional siding installation crew here at Window Outfitters can then install your new fiber cement siding.  We are a Hardie preferred siding installation contractor for the Minneapolis area, so you can be sure we’ll get it done right.
