What Minneapolis Homeowners Need to Know: The Myth of a Budget Replacement Window

We understand that for most homeowners, being able to save money wherever possible when doing remodeling is important.  But if you’re replacing your windows, we’d like to warn you about those bargain windows you might see advertised. Cheap windows are inexpensive, and with good reason.  Keep reading to find out why we suggest that you avoid what seem to be bargains when it comes to replacement windows.

Remodeling projects usually come with a budget. Of course, you’re thinking about   what you can afford at that time, which might be the cheaper window. However, cheaper and more budget friendly window options might not be the wisest choice in the long run.

Always think twice if the price seems too good to be true. While there are affordable windows, there are also windows that have lower-than-normal price tags. Watch out for them.

About ‘Budget’ Windows

They Are Lower Quality

The first thing you should know about economy-priced windows is that the quality is far less than what you’d want in your home. If you’re replacing older windows, it just makes sense to look for ones that are going to perform better than what you’ve already got.   Quality means a lot when putting new windows in your home, and budget ones won’t do the trick.

They are Not Very Energy Efficient

The windows that are budget-priced are not very energy efficient. They don’t do an effective job at keeping your cool or warm air in your home and not letting the outside air in. You will find that in all likelihood your heating and cooling bills will go up, and that will offset any savings you thought you were getting when you bought the windows. You will then wonder why you didn’t leave the older windows in, because they did the same thing.

The Price Tag Is Nice, But the Window Might Not Be

The look of the window might not be as nice as you would think when once that budget window gets installed.  The manufacturer has to cut corners somewhere when those windows are made, and on close inspection budget windows often lack the detailed craftsmanship that make quality windows desirable.

There are plenty of other reasons to pass by those ‘bargain prices’ when you’re shopping for replacement windows, including how long they are expected to last.

Never choose your replacement windows based solely on the price tag that is on them. While this should be a factor to consider, it is not something that should be your top priority.  We generally suggest to our customers that they go with the best windows that will fit in their budget.

Affordable windows are out there, yes, but in the long run you’ll regret wasting your money.  A window is only a true bargain if you get great value out of it, and we’ve got plenty that will give you just that.
