Why Update Windows and Doors? Security, Looks and Efficiency

Are you getting tired of your home’s appearance? Do your windows not stay open without being propped or won’t latch correctly? You don’t need to wait for windows and doors to stop working completely to replace them.

Update Your Home’s Look
While there are certain things about your home you’d never change, there are some aspects that could use an update. If you’d like more light in your living room, or to bring the beauty of the outside in, replace smaller windows with a big bay window.

Few things are nicer to start the day with than the soft glow of the rising sun on colorful autumn Minnesota foliage while sipping a warm cup of coffee in the comfort of a cozy living room.

An outdated front door could be replaced with a newer model with lovely glass panes. Glass will add more character to your exterior and sparkling light to the interior. If you’ve always wanted a grander look, there’s no reason to add some luxury by turning your single front door into double doors.

Energy Efficiency
Newer windows and doors are usually far better insulated than older models. Weather stripping, seals and insulation degrade over time, which results in higher heating and cooling bills. Instead of updating window seals with caulking every year, you’ll save yourself time and money by replacing them completely.

Doors can also lose heat in the winter and cool air in the summer.  Over the years, original wooden doors and framing warp as they expand and contract according to the seasons. That forms gaps which leak air. Often, there’s no way to fix that, even temporarily, so they must be replaced.

Greater Security
That window that won’t latch properly or the hard to close door offer opportunities for intruders to enter your home. These issues can result in lost property and personal injury. However, they can be avoided by replacing the defective windows and doors.

If you’re facing one or more of these challenges, it’s time to replace your old windows and doors. Window Outfitters is a licensed MN home improvement contractor which specializes in window and door replacement. If you have any questions or concerns, give us a call. We’re here to help you.
