Improve the Look of Your Home with Bow Windows

2014-07-02_1539Time for a facelift for your home?  How about a bow window?  Bow windows are often referred to as bay windows.  Bow and bay windows have a lot of similarities – both extend further outside of your home, to create a small alcove where you can look out of the window.  Some bow structures extend all the way to the floor, while others have a ledge that can be used for either a window seat or display area.

The major difference is that bay windows are made up of three windows, usually a large picture window with two flanking smaller windows.  A bow window consists of four to six windows of the same size.  The main difference is that bay windows are angular while bow windows tend to be curved.  A window design like this is able to add a beautiful look to the inside and the outside of your home.

The Construction of Bow Windows

All of the windows in a bow window layout are able to operate on their own, and they are usually casement type windows, though some bow structures are formed from double-hung windows.  Bow windows are ideal to place in larger openings, and they provide a beautiful viewing point for inside the home. Because this design extends out from the wall of your home, these windows can also let in a lot of light and be functional at the same time, so you can enjoy a cool breeze or the smell of spring.  They also tend to add more value to a home than a similar structure with flat windows.

Attaching a Roof to the Window

A team will work to add a bow window to the home by attaching it to an existing roof on the home or by adding a hip roof section that is custom made for your home. This all depends on the curve that you chose for the new window. Asking if you need an attachment or if you can add it as it is when you choose the window can give you an idea of what needs to be done.

The Choices Available

You have so many choices when it comes to the material, color and casings. You are able to stain it a custom color, choose a pre-made color, go with veneers, fiberglass or aluminum. You can choose a wood grain look or have it painted any color so that it is able to match the exterior of the home.  We offer bow windows from a variety of quality replacement window manufacturers such as Pella and Marvin.
