James Hardie Siding – A Top Choice Among Minnesota Homeowners

If you’re ready to replace the siding on your home in the southern Minneapolis suburbs such as Burnsville, Bloomington, or Apple Valley, we’d like to introduce you to a siding product engineered for our climate – James Hardie fiber cement.  A study was done throughout homeowners that have recently replaced their siding with vinyl siding. Over half that were spoken too stated that they would have chosen James Hardie fiber-cement siding over the vinyl siding had they been more informed of the advantages prior to the project.

How James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding Stacks Up

  •  Flame Resistance: James Hardie siding is approved for fire rated construction and is noncombustible, while vinyl siding will burn or melt if it is exposed to any type of high heat temperatures or flames.
  • Resistance to Fading: James Hardie siding comes with ColorPlus Technology that is baked onto the finished product that can provide a 30% better fade resistance than other products. Vinyl siding is not able to be changed and is susceptible to fading, while also having a hard time finding a perfect match if something is broken.
  • Weather Resistance: James Hardie siding is able to resist warping, cracking, rotting, high winds and hail. Vinyl is easily damaged by high winds, debris, and hail.
  • Thickness: James Hardie siding is 5 times thicker than vinyl which makes it more durable. Vinyl siding only comes in a 5/100” thickness.

Things to Consider About Vinyl Siding vs. Fiber Cement

  • Vinyl siding is usually only used as a cover-up or a glove. It is able to cover the old siding that might have started problems in the past that might become worse while covered. It is also not tightly sealed to the old siding which can cause leaks and other moisture damage or termites.
  • Vinyl siding is flammable. It will melt if it is exposed to high temperatures or flames.
  • Vinyl siding can fade because of the sun beaming down on it. If it fades, you will have a hard time finding the right color to replace it with or you will have to re-side the entire house.

Always make sure to read the fine print that comes on the warranty. “Lifetime” might not actually mean it. The manufacturer is usually favored with these types of warranties.
