Keep Your Gutters Clean for the Life of Your Home

09sep18h12a14When was the last time you thought about your gutters?  When it comes to your home, the gutters are an important part of it. Gutters make sure that water is moving away from your home and not into it. Water dripping from your roof can cause damage to the landscape around your home, your roof edge, and even the structure of your home. And melting snow in winter can cause ice dams if your gutters are clogged.  Keeping your gutters clean and in good working order is an important part of protecting your home – you want to make sure that gutter maintenance is not a chore you skip.

There are many reasons why you might forget to clean the gutters out on a regular basis. They can be a difficult to reach, which means difficult to clean. A lot of homeowners might feel that their gutters do not need to be cleaned since the rainwater is doing the work for them. This is not exactly true, especially if the debris is just causing the water to pool up.  And we know iIt can also be an inconvenient task for anyone to do since it involves getting up on a ladder with a hose and other equipment.

However, homeowners should realize that rainwater can actually do more harm than good for your home, and that’s why working gutters are so crucial. You need to regularly clean them out manually, or if you can’t (or don’t want to) do it yourself, then hire a service that is able to do it for you. If you do not clean out the gutters, then you’re going to find that you are paying more for the gutters to be replaced or repaired. You might also have to replace or repair parts of your home and your landscaping if those gutters get backed up.

We recommend that you check and clean the gutters around your home three to four times each year. Remove any and all debris that you find within them. Check the fasteners around the gutters and tighten any that might have come undone. There are many ways that debris and clutter can end up in the gutters of your home. Depending on the specific area that you live, such as in an area with a lot of trees, you may need to clean your gutters more often. Seamless gutters provide better protection all around, without the leaky areas.

If you notice that your gutters are in bad shape as you’re doing your routine maintenance, now is the time to get them replaced before winter because gutters are an important part of protecting your home from the melting snow.
