Solving Wood Window Condensation Problems

img_1679Do your wood windows look like this?  If condensation was found on the inside of the glass for newer energy efficient wood window but not on the older drafty ones that were replaced, this means that the new windows are working. This might come as a shock to some, since you might think condensation is a bad thing. Condensation is actually a good thing since it means that your windows are working. They are working to keep the heat in, which leaves the condensation on the windows without letting it out through a crack in the window.

There is not one home that does not have humidity inside it. You get it from doing the dishes, taking showers, washing your clothes or running the bath. The old windows let the humidity out of the window, while the newer ones are trapping the warm air inside instead of being drafty. There are ways to lower the amount of humidity that you have in your home to prevent condensation from happening.

  • Always run the fans in your home to prevent any moisture from accumulating.
  • Install an intake fan on the furnace in your home.
  • Lower the humidifier settings.
  • Have a whole house fan or more ventilating fans installed in your home.

The fans that you can get come on a timer to allow them to go off once the humidity has been removed from the room that is being used. This also saves power instead of having the fan always run.
